Anganwadi Workers’ Training Programme

Anganwadis are centres to implement the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) of Central Government. This programme aims at an integrated delivery of, a package of health, nutrition and education to children less than six years of age and to pregnant and nursing mothers.

The Kerala State Council for Child Welfare is entrusted with the responsibility of training necessary workers for these Anganwadis. There are eight Anganwadi Workers’ Training Centres spread over the state in districts, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Kochi, Thrissur, Palakkad & three Bala Sevika Training Institutes in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur & Kozhikode.






Chacha Nehru Children’s Museum


The Children's Museum was established by Kerala State Council for Child Welfare at its headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram, in commemoration of its Silver Jubilee Year. The museum is aimed at bestowing education, through entertainment to the children.

The Doll Museum, run by the Council is the first of its kind in southern India, and the second largest in India. Its main attractions are hundreds of dolls from India and abroad, a unique collection of porcelain doll masks from many regions and countries.

The museum also constitutes various galleries like Children's art works, Philately, information section on Health & Nutrition, Science & Technology, Aquarium etc.


Children's Activities

A well stocked Library is functioning in the Council's Headquarters at Thiruvananthapuram with books and periodicals from major publication companies. The library is exclusively used by school students, women undergoing training programmes and staff of the council.

The council conducts Educational and Cultural activities for children during their summer vacation. Interviews with eminent personalities, tours to places of interest are also arranged.

On November 14th, Jawaharlal Nehru's birthday, the council celebrates its Children's Day with gaiety and fervor. A colorful rally led by school children is organized every year.

Every year the council conducts state level Sharmaji Memorial Painting Competitionfor the children of age group 5-16 yrs. This is in memory of the late Shri S. Sharma, the famous activist of the international peace movement. The best paintings from this competition are selected as entries to National Painting Competition organized by Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW).

The Kerala State Council for Child Welfare and Asianet are jointly implementing a Bravery Award Scheme to the children on State Level. It was started in the year 2000. Ten children are rewarded for their exemplary presence of mind and courage. The first three from among the ten winners are directed to participate in the National level Bravery Award. The first three winners are awarded Rs. 25,000/- each and the remaining 7 children are awarded Rs. 7,000/- each along with the Certificates.

The Kerala State Council for Child Welfare instituted Journalism, Photography & Video Awards on children and child issues. Annual Awards for the Best Press Feature Report and the Best Press Photograph was instituted in 2000. The award for the best video-report on children and child issues was added to these two in 2001. The best award for press feature report is in the name of the late Shri. N. Narendran, the best press photographs awards in memory of the late Shri. Victor George and the award for the best video report on children is in the name of the late Shri. K. Jayachandran. Each of these annual awards include Rs. 10,000/- in cash and a memento.
